Professional Background:

Dr. Manja Kubeil studied chemistry at the Technische Universität Dresden (Germany) and undertook her doctoral studies on metal-based radiopharmaceutical agents at Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research, HZDR. In 2014 she received her doctoral degree from Technische Universität Dresden with highest distinction and was awarded with a Marie Skłodowska-Curie International Outgoing Fellowship. From 2015 until 2017 she was working in the group of Prof. Leone Spiccia and Dr. Bim Graham at Monash University, School of Chemistry and Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Australia). During this time, she developed photoactivatable carbon monoxide-releasing molecules for cancer treatment. As part of the fellowship, she returned to HZDR in 2017. From 2019 until 2025, Dr. Kubeil was a group leader at the Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research working on the development of metal-based multimodal theranostic radiopharmaceutical agents for tumor diseases. In 2025 Dr. Kubeil became head of the division Radiation research on biological systems at Institute of Resource Ecology, HZDR.

Research Interests:

Dr. Kubeil’s research interests are broad spanning bioinorganic and coordination chemistry as well radiochemistry / radiopharmacy with focus on radiation research and radioecology. Currently, we are focusing on (radio)nuclides (mainly actinides / lanthanides) interactions with different organisms like bacteria, fungi, plants or mammalian cells for different applications such remediation or recycling strategies or decontaminating agents.
