Professional Background:
Hi, my name is Jarvis Ashcroft. I began working at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) while completing my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at the University of Wollongong, where I graduated with First Class Honours. At ANSTO, I gained experience across the Minerals and Radiopharmaceutical Units, working in chemical process development, chromatographic separations, analytical chemistry, pilot plant operation, radiochemistry and radiopharmaceutical formulation. I also completed a research placement with CSIRO, where I developed Python-based computational models of metallurgical processes. This combination of mineral-processing, radiochemical and computational experience led directly to my interest in adapting industrial lanthanide-separation technologies for nuclear medicine.
Research Interests:
I am currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Sydney. My research focuses on designing, synthesising and evaluating chelator-impregnated extraction chromatographic resins for the selective separation of radiolanthanides used in nuclear medicine. By integrating resin synthesis, chromatographic optimisation and radiochemical validation, the project aims to develop more efficient, sustainable and automation-compatible purification processes for medical radioisotope production. Outside the laboratory, I enjoy gardening and surfing, where I probably receive more radiation exposure from unshielded cosmic and solar radiation than I do while working with radionuclides.
